Flat tires are the bane of dual sport and adventure riders. No matter how much a motorcyclist might thump their chest and proclaim “How much they love wrenching on their own machines,” I have never heard someone talk about how much they enjoy replacing a tire tube trailside. Tubeless tires make the job easier, as you can simply plug a hole, but if you are running tubed tires and airing down for off-road traction, well, you’re just in for a miserable time, eventually.
At low pressures, even the “beefy” or “rugged” tubes the manufacturers sell you are puncture-prone (and sometimes they’re more difficult to mount). But—what if you went even more beefy and rugged, building a super-thick tire tube? Sand Tires
That’s what Luciolo does, with its line of 7mm Heavy Duty Inner Tubes. They’re specifically designed to resist damage while running low pressures. They’re even designed with rimlocks built right into the tube. If somehow you do get a puncture, you’re supposed to be able to ride these along at slow speeds, like a run-flat tire, to at least get you home.
These might sound like desirable features, but like many things in life, these tubes are a trade-off.
Are these tire tubes for you? I have no experience with them, so I can’t recommend them to you. There is very little available online for user reviews, but along with the videos above, there are some other YouTube discussions of the tubes.
