Newark, Del. – Covation Biomaterials is introducing a spandex replacement for some textile applications.
Working in collaboration with Oscar Chandler & Co., the biomaterials innovator developed Sorona polymer treated with a specialized dyeing process for knitted fabrics. Oscar Chandler & Co. – which supplies yarns to the textile industry in North and Central America – has now added Sorona to its portfolio.
Sorona polymer is made from 37% annually renewable plant-based ingredients and offers a high-performing, responsibly sourced material option. Fibers made with Sorona polymer are currently used in various apparel applications, including athleisure and athletic wear, insulation, swimwear, outerwear, suiting and faux fur.
Sorona polymer is a USDA certified Biobased Product, has earned Class 1 certification as an Oeko-Tex Standard 100 product and is bluesign approved.
